So Grateful…
Dear Friends,
Every year - during this moment when we all collectively pause and deeply acknowledge the gratitude in our lives, I tend to reflect on our years at the Inn. Bruce and I started coming to the Pelican many, many years ago when we were datng. We were without care or responsibility. We rolled out of bed for the delicious breakfasts and hit the beach until it was time to shower for lunch. Afternoons were spent reading, napping, playing cards and hanging out with friends; while dinners were Penrose sausages, pickled okra, boiled peanuts, and lots (and lots) of gin.
It was heaven. No air conditioning, no phones, no worries. Eventually, we had to rent houses to accommodate our growing family, but we always came back for Labor Day when Bruce would leave us at the Pelican and drive into Florence for the opening of dove season. It was bliss.
I didn’t spend one minute doing chores or planning meals. Now my babies are grown and are making their own tradiions at the Pelican. We love it that they treasure this special old place. And we really enjoy seeing your families grow and return year after year. The tradition is a treasure to be shared.
This is a simple family getaway that we feel is worth preserving. Thank you for sharing your families with us and this very special island. This Thanksgiving we are not only grateful for our own history with the island and the Inn, but so very grateful for you sharing the traditions with us year after year.
With Love, Corinne and Bruce
